Learning At Dundee Museum of Transport

Here at Dundee Museum of Transport, we have a brand-new education offer for all primary stages and abilities. Why don’t you come and visit Scamp, who is featured throughout our children’s trail? Our “Transport Throughout Time” trail will take you through the story of local transport pioneers, Dundee’s last tram, electric cars and everything in between. This tale of Dundee’s transportation history encompasses a variety of disciplines.

If you would like, our knowledgeable tour guides can tell you about the past, present and future of transport, whilst taking you through the interesting and packed exhibition halls to help you complete some fun activities. Or, you and your class can discover exciting facts and complete questions as well as other activities in a self-guided trail around our museum.

SCAMP’S “TRANSPORT THROUGHOUT TIME” TRAIL

This trail is designed to help pupils understand the development of transport from the 18th Century until the present day. This can be a self-directed or a guided activity, just let us know!

TIMELINE OF DUNDEE TRANSPORT (IN A BOX)

In this facilitated object handling workshop, pupils will have the opportunity to engage with our collection through storytelling and handling. Our narrators will take your pupils on an immersive cultural journey as they hear the stories of local transport pioneers and Dundee’s past whilst also exploring what the future of transport may look like.

Design, Build and Race An Electric (Lego) Car workshop

In this guided session your pupils will have the opportunity to explore different examples of electric vehicles that make up our “Cars, COP26 and The Climate Crisis” exhibition. This will help your students to determine what makes a fast, reliable and successful electric car. We will then head to our Playbus where they will have the chance to design, build and race a Lego electric car in groups to see who wins and why?

Community Sensory Garden

We wanted to make our outside space at the Museum just as interesting as the inside space and with funding from the National Lottery Community Fund we have created a community sensory garden. Our sensory garden has been designed to engage all of the senses, with plants you can smell, listen to, touch and even taste. We encourage our school groups to visit our sensory garden on their trip and it can be used as a space to have a packed lunch.

As we seek to increase our interactive and sensory offerings at the museum, we have also recently set up a series of space travel themed sensory stations onboard our Playbus. We are more than happy to make these available to any school or nursery groups on their visit. Just let us know!
